"The language, content, participation and his enthusiastic energy! He knows how to tick the right boxes to keep the children focused... and that was just the assembly. The work he did on creative writing with all of the children was inspirational and so practical!" Headteacher Northumberland November 2012
Having been a full-time, practicing K.S. 1 teacher I know and understand the needs and capabilities of children in this age-range. Everything that I do is meant to be a demonstration for the teaching professionals as well as the children. It is a chance for Teachers to see repeatable practice that they can adapt and adopt to their own teaching styles.
AIM: To give the children an achieveable and repeatable model for planning a complete story in a short space of time.
K.S. 1 session (Approx 45 minutes +) 1. Identify the key elements of a story and the needs of the reader. 2. Using elements from a variety of familiar story beginnings compose a unique opening sentence. 3. Taking random, everyday, classroom objects as a stimulus for the beginning, middle and end of a story. 4. The story is told in its entirety. 5. Under supervision, the children use an age-appropriate writing template to write out the story
